She’s a Character

My soul longeth yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. Psalm 84:2

When asked why such a big password, she replied "It had to be at least 8 characters long."

Sometimes the things that your co-workers do and say make you want to bang your head up against a doorjamb. That’s a more polite response than simply smacking them.

Many times our reactions are based less on someone else’s actions and more on our own internalization of the stress that comes with working the same job day in and day out. As we get closer to the end of the week we find ourselves longing for Friday so we can have a couple of days to ourselves. Friday is the gateway to the weekend, where we can relax and put aside the rigid conformity of the work week.tgif

We long for the day to be over on Friday so we can begin “our time”. For many people in the workforce that longing begins on Monday morning ‘round about 9am. What if we longed for God like that? What if each day we counted down the hours until we could be back in His house to worship Him?

David had some ideas about worshipping God, and David was much like we are. David knew what he was supposed to do, but many times he chose to do something else. Here is what the psalmist had to say on our relationship with the Lord:

Psalm 84:4 ESV

Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Selah

And again in verses 10-11:

“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and a shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

Let us say TGIF because we are glad for the coming of the Lord’s day. Let us look forward to worshipping Him. Maybe if we focus our thoughts on the good things of God we will be less inclined to let the stress of the 9 to 5 overtake our lives. TGIF!
